i have a JRSCed b16a3 running ~6psi boost, my custom exhuast consist of kamikaze header with 2.5" down pipe going to 2.5" car sound cat then 2.5" menderal B pipe terminated with a manaflow round muffler-the sound coming from this setup is way to loud/raspy for me, especally around 6K-8K rpm it insanely loud!
i was gonna order a manaflow resontor but was told by the guy i was buying it from that it may help only a little due to the 2.5" piping.
i also thought about getting the cherrybomb/glass pack but also heard that they too are not very good at deadening the sound.
i bet alot of yous have a similar setup, what did yous do to tone down the sound? i would like to tone it down alot.
thanks

You have a Magnaflow round, eh? My first muffler was a Magnaflow. You're right, it WAS way too loud.
My current setup is great. 2.5" piping, Carsound round cat, resonator, Borla XS muffler. The tone is relatively quiet, even for California. Off idle, it's a little loud, but when I cruise, there is no droning either.
The previous setup that I had before this was a Dynomax Superturbo muffler (everything else same). That setup was really quiet. But the thing is that it's not a suitable muffler for out setup (specifically the horsepower).

SolRNY, I have the same set up as you apart from the muffler and more boost (=more noise). I went for a Mugen Twin Loop because I did not want too much noise. It is still a little too noisy for my conservative tastes but I am prepared to put up with it because it is such a great sound. Sounds well rounded, deep and very powerful. I have heard that the Moroso spiral flow resonators are good at dampening down really loud exhaust systems and are very cheap (around $40 I think). http://www.moroso.com/catalog/catego...?CatCode=35001 Just weld it in.

well, i was going to order the 2.5" moroso spiral from jegs.com but when speaking to the tech guy he said that this unit is very restrictive-considering my setup and that i have a b16a3 motor he does not recommend getting this unit becuase most of my power is made in the upper RPM that this unit will hurt my upper end power

I'm surprised. Still, worth checking out 'cos I was close to getting one myself. Whatever, if you don't have one you should seriously consider getting a mid-pipe resonator. That will help a bit but it's your Magnaflow that the main problem. You need to replace it.

i dont like this round magnaflow, but i could not drive the car home thus i was force into putting something on just to get by.
i was thinking about getting a twinloop replica but really dont want to shed out ~500$, still twin loop looks damn impressive.

since i have 2.5" piping should i get a 3" in/out for the moroso spiral?

I think you should go for the 2.5". That's what it's for....a 2.5" exhaust system. A 3" would need adapters and would probably defeat much of what you are trying to achieve (noise level). Reason I say this is because the inner path through the muffler is straight through and would be correspondingly larger. Also, these mufflers are designed for dragsters so are maximized already for flowability. I also think that, for mildly tuned engines, large dia exhaust systems are way overhyped for the performance gains you get back. So, if I were you, I would go for 2.5". And/or try to get hold of a used Type R muffler.

I have used glasspacks (though not on the 'teg) and their biggest shortcoming is that they sound great when you first put them on but as soon as they start accumulating soot and crap that mellowness starts to dissappear. I concluded that glasspacks are great if you don't mind re-packing 'em often (only some brands allow you to do this).
